Chopper Kits

A handful of parts, a world of possibilities

More choppers are around now than in the past 25 years, most of which have been built from chopper kits. If the "bike-in-the-box" approach is a little intimidating to you, don't stress! It's easier now that it's ever been before to build your own, custom-made chopper.

This ain't your daddy's chopper

Just 30 years ago, it was harder to build one's own chopper, because chopper kits as we now know them just didn't exist. Builders literally had to start with a stock bike, off the shelf, and chop it to pieces (hence the nickname "Chopper"). Today, there are rolling chassis chopper kits, complete bike chopper kits, and even custom chopper kits. All of these options give you a cheaper, easier way to build your bike from the ground up, and also allow you the flexibility to design some pretty stand-out features for your chopper.

Reuse, reduce, recycle = renowned

When you consider the cost of buying a new bike versus the expense of building one with a chopper kit, building your own actually works out to be much cheaper. Instead of pitching parts that you think you'll never use again, incorporate some of those into your chopper kit to make a bike that is second to none. All of the parts that you absolutely need are included in your chopper kit, as well as comprehensive instructions. Using your old bike parts in combination with the parts from the chopper kit gives you an opportunity to make a killer statement on the streets.

A blank canvas

One question you may be asking yourself is, "How will my chopper stand out from the rest if I buy a generic chopper kit" Well, that's up to you, because that's exactly what you'll be doing: building your bike from a generic chopper kit. It begins as a pile of raw metal; unpainted; unfinished; uncut; untouched. Just because someone purchases the same kit, it's highly unlikely that they'll have the same taste in paint color, bolt-ons, seats, decals or exhausts. Your chopper kit may be the same as the next guy's, but that doesn't mean that your chopper will be. If buying a "generic" chopper kit makes you a little uneasy, you have the option, for a higher price, to put together a custom chopper kit to make your bike even more unique.

Recipe for success

The process may sound tedious, and true, this experience isn't for you if you're looking for a quick project to last only a couple of days. You can expect to spend some serious time on your chopper, and that's a guarantee. However, if you have the patience, determination and elbow grease to get the thing done, buying a chopper kit could be one of the most rewarding purchases you'll ever make!
